I can't believe this, I can't believe what I'm hearing over the news, from people regarding the beatification of PopeJohn Paul II. In an interviewed a man narrating about his encounter with the pope. He told that he was able to kissed the hand of the pope with the pope's ring in it and how he felt cleansed after kissing it. Upon hearing that interview, I can say that that person is ridiculous. I don't understand why people exalted John Paul II more instead of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only person who could cleansed us from all our sins and not some human. It is only through Jesus Christ name that our salvation is found.
"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
- Acts 4:12
"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
- John 14:6
There are even people who prayed and are glorifying the pope as if he is a god. Do you think that if John Paul II is alive He would be glad to see people praying and glorifying him instead of Jesus Christ? If John Paul II is really a godly person then he should not be glad, because if he does, he's not at all the godly person most catholic people think he is. The person who should be glorified and exalted is the Lord Jesus Christ alone and not human. Let's see what John the Baptist replied when his followers were concerned that everyone is going to Jesus to be baptized.
After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized. (This was before John was put in prison.) An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing. They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.” To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”
-John 3:22-30
John the Baptist said "He must become greater, I must become less." John the Baptist was not trying to exalt himself neither does he glorified himself. but he's giving all the glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. Or in case of Paul and Barnabas, what did they do when people in Lystra tried to make them a god and offered sacrifices to them.
In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.
When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker. The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
- Acts 14:8-15
The person (John Paul II) that they are trying to exalt, the person (John Paul II) where they prayed to was only human like us. So why pray to him? Why exalt him and give him the glory that should have been for Jesus Christ alone. Going back to beatification process, Beatification according to wikepedia encyclopedia, is a recognition accorded by a certain Church of a dead person's entrance into Heaven and capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in his or her name (intercession of saints). According to the free dictionary, is to proclaim (a deceased person) to be one of the blessed and thus worthy of public religious veneration in a particular region or religious congregation and to exalt above all others. We don't need other intercessor other than Jesus Christ. As far as I'm concerned the only mediator we have is the Lord Jesus Christ, We should never prayed to any other people or in any other name except in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. How can a human acts as an interecessor or mediator between the Father God and another human? That can never be because Human no matter how good He lives is by nature a sinner. The only person who can be a mediator is Jesus Christ alone because He is sinless. The canonization of John paul II would only add up to many idols that a certain religion had. Idols by meaning are anything or anyone that takes a person's attention away from the True God. People are praying, glorifying, and exalting John Paul II instead of Jesus Christ. Clearly, that's idolatry. God hates idolatry. The canonization process involves that the person being canonize should show two miracles. They claimed that John Paul II performed one miracle when a French nun was healed from Parkinson disease after praying to him. I know that what the catholic church are doing is definitely wrong but what I don't understand was the miracle that they claimed that John Paul II performed. If what they're doing is not right how can their be miracle? Last night while praying, I asked God the same question, then the preaching of Jesus about the end of times just enter my mind out of nowhere. I believe that it is God answering me about my question. So I look up at the Bible to confirmed the words that Jesus said, and it says:
"At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time"
- Matthew 24:23-25
In the book of Galatians, Paul reaction when many people are turning to a different gospel
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!"
- Galatians 1:6-9
So be careful that you are not deceive by false teachings, false gospels and traditions of religion.
